What we believe
Common Wealth was founded in 2015 with the goal of expanding access to retirement security. Co-founders Alex Mazer and Jonathan Weisstub wanted to use their cross-sector backgrounds of law, business, and government service to use finance to serve the public good. Building on its work with some of the world’s pension institutions, the firm created the first retirement plan for lower- and moderate-income Canadians, which it launched in 2017 in partnership with the SEIU. Since its founding, Common Wealth has built a team of experienced pension professionals and established partnerships with leading institutions in Canada and the U.S., all with the goal of addressing the retirement security challenge.

Common Wealth is looking for people of talent and integrity to join our team. We were founded a little less than two years ago with the objective of expanding access to high-quality retirement plans, and with the fundamental belief that all workers deserve access to such a plan. We believed that the “technology” of the pension, notwithstanding its recent decline especially in the private sector, remains relevant but needs some updating to accommodate the realities workers face today. We wanted to see if we could bring the lessons from the world’s best pension plans -- many of which are located in Canada -- to the parts of the workforce that lack access to a pension.
